We have launched the new club website — the culmination of just over a year’s work!
Design goals
Our old website has served us well for decades, but needed to be redeveloped for the needs of 2026 and beyond. Among our goals are:
- A modern look that conforms to our club’s brand identity.
- A consistent menu and navigation system on all pages.
- A design that works for both desktop and mobile browsers.
- Make it easy for newcomers to the sport to understand what we do.
A common motivation for randonneur cycling is to experience the epic landscapes of British Columbia and camaraderie of club members. We would like cyclists who have never tried randonneuring before to immediately get a sense for what it’s like! Therefore, we have decided to feature, at the top of the home page, an image carousel of recent newsletter articles.
As always, we welcome contributions to the newsletter, which you can now submit to . If you contribute a newsletter article with an interesting photo, we will make sure that it gets the attention it deserves!
Also on the home page are recent announcements and a list of upcoming events (with information extracted automatically from the database).
For the footer, we’ve used an elevation profile as a whimsical feature, because one distinguishing characteristic of rides in British Columbia is that they are hilly!
(The profile is of a famous French ride though 😉)
Transition plan
Our old website, built over decades, had over 1000 HTML pages. Those pages contained more than just information; they are a collection of member contributions, memories, and achievements. It is not our intention to discard old content for the sake of modernization.
However, it’s an impossible task for a small team of volunteers to launch the new site with all of the content of the old site. Therefore, as we continue to migrate content to the new site, the contents of the previous website will remain available at archives.randonneurs.bc.ca. We appreciate your understanding.
If you have any issues or feedback, please email the website development team at .
Acknowledgements
We would like to acknowledge Erika Rathje for the look, design and WordPress development, Eric Fergusson for his years of work maintaining the old website and mailing list, and Vanessa Cowley for volunteering as our incoming newsletter editor.
