Helping out
Volunteer to help out at a brevet, populaire or other club activity
BC Randonneurs works so well because riders pitch in at club events and at other levels of club organization. All members are expected to help out at least a little every year. And it can be a fun way to meet and get to know other riders and volunteers. If you're interesting in helping out here's how. There are two main ways:
Contact a Ride Organizer Directly If there is a specific event you would like to help out on, why not phone or e mail the organizer. Sometimes ride organizers will post a message on the discussion forum asking for volunteers, and greatly appreciate receiving your responses.
Contact Your Regional Brevet Coordinator The brevet coordinator is the person best positioned to know where your help is most needed. Here is the contact information of our four regional coordinators:
Lower Mainland: Nigel Press 604-258-7486
Vancouver Island: Mark Payten 250-213-3724
Southern Interior: Bob Goodison 250-675-2879
Peace Region: Wim Kok 250-785-4589
Most of the event support is needed in the Lower Mainland and on Vancouver Island. It is common for there to be a "volunteers and organizers pre-ride" the weekend before the scheduled ride to check the route, and also so that ride-day volunteers have the opportunity to get full credit for riding the event. These pre-rides are typically fun and relaxed.
If you have other ideas about how you can help out why not contact someone on the club executive or the current president.
We look forward to hearing from you!
All helpers receive a volunteer pin
at the end of the season.
Here's the 2007 pin.
