Spring Social 2011 Karen Smith (left) was the deserving winner of the Roger Street Award for exceptional club service at the BC Randonneurs spring social at Mooses Down Under in Vancouver on March 15. Karen has been pins (brevet finishers' pins) coordinator since the mid 1990s and has also contributed to the club and sport in many other ways. Barb Pope was also recognized at the social for her many contributions in the past few years. There was a panel discussion / question-answer session about Paris Brest Paris coming up in August 2011. As always there were awards recognizing riding achievements from the past season (2010). Iron Butt (Ken Bonner), Super Randonner (55 riders), Randonneur 5000 (Keith Fraser), BC 12 (for permanents - 13 riders in 2010) and the 40,000 medal. Susan Allen became the 14th rider and 3rd woman to have received the 40,000 medal for having a life-time event distance total of 40,000 km, which is the circumference of the planet. Michel Richard was on the mic. Buffet dinner, fluids, conversation, good times.
