Galloping Goose Populaire recap

Mike Poplawski

The first-ever Galloping Goose Off-Road Populaire held in Victoria was nothing short of a small success!

Nine riders enjoyed the sweet sights, sounds and smells of 66.5 km of dirt and 12.5 km of pavement between Thetis Lake and Sooke Potholes parks. Two riders even chose a 100 km option which also took them along the urban (and paved) section of the Galloping Goose Trail system into the city of Victoria.

We had a gorgeous day, allowing everyone to make good time on this gorgeous route. Also, we saw great bike-handling by everyone--I'm pretty sure all the dust you were wearing got there through the air!

All ride and post-ride paperwork was handled with ease, although there was some controversy regarding some sauteed mushrooms.

I hope to see you at the next running of what should prove to be a growing event! Expect to see more publicity in 2002 and more riders taking part. Everyone should give the Galloping Goose Trail a try!
