First French audax ride on Easter Monday, April 3rd 1904, on a route between Paris and Gaillon.

The photo of the first official ride shows the peeloton on its way back to Paris after a lunch break in the town of Vernon. Charles Stourm is the cyclist in the centre of the photo with the light-coloured knickers. Inset is the "Little Pat of Butter'', the yellow enamel medal engraved with the Audax number of each cyclist who successfully completed an official 200 kilometer ride.
