PermaLIGHTS are happening!
by Karen Smith

If you weren't at the 2024 Rando AGM, you might not know that the Club Directors gave the approval for a lighter version of the BC Permanent program. Essentially, if you ride an event that is at least 100 km in length, for 12 consecutive months, then you get an award. Events can be brevets, permanents, or populaires.

For me, it was getting too stressful to try to ride a 200 in winter, and I worried about the potential black ice. By shortening the qualifying ride distance, there is much less chance of coming across icy roads... and this has relieved a lot of stress for me - and my family. : )

I've been riding PermaLights since October. I won't get the full BC12 award this year. That's okay with me. I can work towards a BC12 LIGHT, not as prestigious as a BC12, but still a challenge.

I encourage others to ride over the winter months! Hopefully the BC12 LIGHT might help you dip your toes in... Come on in, the roads are fine.... : ) Maybe you aren't worried about the potential ice, maybe you just don't feel like a 200, especially in winter. Why not give PermaLights a try... and maybe a BC12 LIGHT!

:)
