"Late Easy Spring Series"
Lower Mainland's Second 2025 Spring Brevet Series
Ride Dates: May 17 - May 31 - June 14 - June 29
by Étienne Hossack

New for 2025 is the addition of a second Lower Mainland Spring Series of brevets. You might say a “Late Easy Spring Series”.
Okay, but what does this mean?

Recently there’s been lots of debate within the club about the difficulty of rides, what is considered to be an engaging ride, and how rides have progressed over the years. Factors such as elevation, traffic, rider age, and seasonal fitness all come into play in these discussions. So we’re going to try an experiment!

In 2025 the goal is to get committed organisers and volunteers to run great rides for the Spring Series. Great is as defined by the ride organizer, and the routes will be “spirited” and “inspired” within reason (no Super 600s or Leg Destroying 200s!).

The LESSer brevet series (see what I did there?) will be a different sort of challenge. The routes will aim to:
- Re-use known roads close to the city in an interesting format (200)
- Minimise absolute elevation gain (300)
- Run a ride on popular roads with known an acceptable difficulty level (400)
- Try out known, manageable roads from other clubs (600)

They will not be volunteer supported (would detract from the Spring/Summer series), so the emphasis is on the self-supported nature of Randonneur riding.
They may or may not be pre-ridden (but expect cue sheets and GPX files well combed through!)
They will take advantage of long weekends, in case this inspires any new/interested riders.

Hope to see some of you out there!
