Buccaneer Report
Permanent Brevet #38, 203 km
Ride Date: September 30, 2024
by Barry Monaghan

Barry checked in after his recent permanent. There are always challenges. Here Barry faces and adapts to the road work, complications of a very old route and disappearing control questions. I asked Barry if it was ok to make this message a newsletter submission. He agreed. [Eric F]

Hi Eric, the ride went well with some small niggles, all of them on 232nd.

The "Which family adopted 232nd?" sign is gone, I guess they don't keep them up permanently, so instead I took a photo of the bike leaning up against the 0 ave @ 232nd street signs.

There was a road closure further up 232nd, which looked like road resurfacing, so I had to follow the road detour signs they set up. This took me to 240th and then Fraser Hwy before I could get back on 232nd.

Otherwise conditions were good and the ride enjoyable.
With the adjustments I made in north Surrey and the road detour this ride got a bit longer.
I assume this is the 'original' Buccaneer route?
By the time I got home I logged 254 km including the commute to start and back home from the finish. My fitness is returning. Looks like I'm getting a bit faster.

Cheers.

Barry
