UIE
2000 The UIE was scheduled most recently for September 2016.
This 2000 kilometre brevet on Vancouver Island in western Canada is sanctioned by BC Randonneurs, and recognized by les Randonneurs Mondiaux. The route is scenic but challenging. The ride should only be attempted by experienced randonneurs and ultra cyclists. Qualification: There is no official qualification criteria, but your cycling experience will be scrutienized by the organizer. Registration will be allowed to riders with a reasonable expectation of finishing. Time Limit: The outside time limit is 166:40 hrs/mins based on an average speed of 12 kms/hr. Unlike other longer ACP and RM brevets, the average time is uniform from start to finish. Support: In 2008 there was limited official event support. In 2009 there was no event support. As in any brevet, riders can receive personal support at controls. Another option is to send suppies to your expected sleep controls before the start. Sleep Stratagy: A 2000 km brevet is too long to attempt without a sleep stratagy, so consider a few options. The route is arranged so that a series of out-and-backs are possable returning riders for repeat rest stops. The route works nicely for a six day (five night) division of the route. There is also a logical seven day division, which cuts the last two days into three. More hard core cyclists may consider dividing the route into four 500 km days. More discussion on how you might partition the route HERE.

Additional... a historical footnote... Scheduling a 2000 km is rare, but not unique. There was an earlier 2000 km brevet in British Columbia - more information on the "Y2K 2K" HERE. |
